Conclusion

Well this is my last blog which is very sad however this journey has been very interesting and fun. For my final blog I wanted to recap all of the things I have gone over. Starting off with the oldest who are reliable and responsible. They love school and strive for perfection however they sometimes can be controlling. Also they do well in a career of science and can sometimes get to stressed out causing high blood pressure. Not to mention the relationships between siblings and their need to be the alpha in a romantic relationship. Moving on to the middle child that is very social and the peacemaker of the group. Another fact is they are more rebels than perfectionists and since they are stuck in middle the middle children are the most misunderstood. The youngest or "baby" of the family is the free-spirit and most out-going out of everyone. Unfortunately they have the hardest time in school and always need attention in the relationship. The only child are leaders and mature for their age and strive for perfection in school similar to the oldest child. They also need attention in any relationship they are in. I have learned so much from researching the different ways birth order affects those children. This I-search has taught me so much about the process of research and I am very glad to have been able to teach my audience  all that I can about birth order. I want to thank my audience for listening to my research on birth order and I hope that my research was eye-opening.

Science Behind Birth Order

After researching so much about birth order I was curious to see if there was an actual science behind it. According to my research scientists have actually studied why people are the way they are due to birth order. Epidemiologists have done a study on 250,00 siblings and found that the first-born has a three-point IQ advantage which really surprised me. I had no idea that there could be that much difference just because you were born first. Actually researchers discovered that the oldest child gets at least 3,000 more hours with their parents and parents tend to have higher expectations for the first-born. Unlike their siblings whose parents tend to loosen up when the next kids are born. Middle children are stuck in between like I have said before they have better "theory of mind" than their older siblings. Meaning they are more agreeable and play better with their siblings. Not much research has been done from what I've seen which is really disappointing I think there should be more studies done on the middle child.

Now the "baby" of the family I found the research most interesting to read and the research process for this topic was harder than the other topics I have researched before. Scientists have found out that some families have the theory of the "survival of the fittest" by Charles Darwin, when new siblings are introduced into the family with younger siblings fighting to be on top. However, researchers from UC Berkley came across the fact that younger siblings are 1.5 times more likely to be riskier than their siblings. Also some people did studies in major league baseball which was very surprising to see and they discovered that later born siblings are more likely to steal 2nd base or have better batting success. Proving their theory that the youngest child are the "daredevils" of the family. I found the science behind birth order very interesting even though finding a reliable article was tougher than usual. I think that birth order is very important and has a huge affect on our lives in every way.

Sibling Relationships

I know I have talked about relationships before both romantic and friendships but today I wanted to discuss how birth order affects relationships between siblings. To start off, the first-born usually feel more threatened by the second-born since they are their first sibling compared to the last-born who is just the baby. In fact, when my little sister was first born I threw a little stuffed reindeer at her the first time I saw her. While the oldest child have many distinct qualities usually one that is being a leader which requires them to be more clever to not get dethroned by their sibling. Also they were able to grow up watching adults not just their siblings. Now the only child does not get to experience sibling relationships which I find very sad since they are something to cherish but they also do not have to fight for their parents attention which is a plus. The middle child sometimes don't feel as accomplished as their older sibling which can make them feel invisible however as time passes and from personal experience that bond grows stronger between middle and older siblings. Now the youngest child feel the need to do something big with their life due to interference from older siblings. Sibling rivalry erupts constantly in many households mine included where tension occurs 24/7. The youngest plays on the fact that they are the baby in the family and my brother does this all the time batting his little eyelashes. While the middle child are often squeezed out and don't really have a spot. First-borns usually resent their responsibilities when new siblings come along. Researching this topic I came across many articles however a few of them did not pass the CRAP test  being to old or unreliable. However I found two articles that gave me information that was very useful and reliable.

Health

Hey everyone so after doing more research on the affects of birth order I came across an interesting topic. I found out that your birth order can have an affect on your health which is a very important aspect of our lives. While digging for information I found mostly reliable articles however, this one stood out due to the credibility by Dr. Oz a well known doctor. This article gave me an insight on how birth order affects our health even before we are born which is crazy. To start off with the first-born who we know are perfectionists who strive for greatness but that drive can sometimes hurt them. According to the article, " What Birth Order Can Predict About You" the first-born have very increased stress and blood pressure which can lead to cardiovascular problems when they get older. As a high school student I can relate to the stresses school can bring. Also the oldest child tend to have high blood pressure since the mother's placenta, which provides nutrients, in the womb does not work as well in her first pregnancy. Another fact is the oldest is more affected by allergies compared to their siblings since they are the first pregnancy and the mothers womb is not as adapted as the later-born children. Now moving on to the middle child they are at risk for chronic fatigue syndrome according to new research that is being done. In fact my sister would never want to get up in the morning. Not much influences the middle child in health. The youngest born feel very free in life due to their free spirits but this can cause addictive behavior to come easier to them. Since they are risk takers that want to experience as many new things as possible. Health in the only child I found most interesting and surprising since they don't have siblings to worry about. Since they are the only one their parents tend to be more giving which can lead to obesity if the parents are not careful in how much they give. It was very surprising to discover that birth order can even affect our health in the future, I will be sure to watch how much stress I put on myself since I'm the oldest.

Intelligence

Today I wanted to go over how birth order affects education/ intelligence in the family. Typically, the oldest has a higher aptitude since they strive for higher GPAs in school. I can vouch for that I would miss Disneyland in order to still be at school. Also most U.S. Presidents, NASA astronauts, and science Nobel Laureates are first-born proving that oldest children are competitive and want the best grades. Research has shown that first-borns receive higher test scores in math and verbal ability. A shocker since I was mortified at public speaking. Another study tested high school siblings and oldest were found to be more perfectionistic compared to their siblings. This is  due to the fact that first-borns had the sole attention of their parents so they were able to gain more knowledge in that time without siblings. The only child is similar to first-borns they want to impress their parents and like doing well in school. They also perform well in math and are also perfectionists. I have a little cousin that has to have everything his way he is kind of a perfectionist. Now moving to the younger siblings they received higher scores in English and math, with the study on high school siblings they were much more open to new things hinting that they might choose to party instead of study. However, my sister does not take risks she is a perfectionist as well she also excels in English category. With later-born children they had the advantage of watching the oldest child go through school and another thing is the younger siblings see what the first-born struggled with and can avoid those obstacles once they are in school. However, they can sometimes feel like they have to out do their sibling to impress their parents. Which made their time in school harder with all the competition. The topic of how birth order affects your career was an easier topic to find information on and there were many sites that aided in my research. Ultimately every child in their birth order has pros and cons but find their way to succeed in life.

Relationships

So lets talk about relationships and how birth order affects those relationships. We all know the basic sibling hierarchy since I've gone over it before but I want to tell you about relationships with friends or even a future spouse. Research shows that the middle child is more likely to stay married compared to the oldest or even the youngest. The information I came across while researching checked out when I cross referenced with other articles so that made it easier to research. Also this does have to do with the personality traits but the oldest as we know are more reliable and responsible so they can potentially marry anyone which ultimately gives the oldest an advantage. The eldest can help the youngest or "baby" and the middle who is more agreeing and will let them be the alpha in the group. Now if the eldest child marries another eldest, one of them has to become the alpha since both are used to being in control all the time. I can relate because I always feel the need to be in control in any relationship I am in. Now the middle child is better off with another middle or an oldest due to the fact they are still a little rebellious and need someone to keep them in check. The youngest however is the toughest since they have been babied all their life and need more attention so the oldest would most likely be the best fit.

Now for relationships with your friends most people know it is easier to identify with the other people in your same birth order. Actually many of my friends are the oldest out of their families birth order. There are also other occasions where and oldest and youngest compliment each other since they are kind of opposites and will balance each other out. However, in my experience I relate better with other oldest children since we can complain about our younger siblings. The middle child as we have discussed is very social due to the fact that they are stuck in the middle at home and can better adapt to basically anyone's birth order. Showing that each person in their birth order compliment each other so you might want to keep that in mind before you tie the knot or choose your new roommate.

Careers

Birth order has an enormous affect on your life for example your career in life. Researchers have studied that depending on your birth order there are certain careers that suit you best. Researching this topic the article I found was a very credible source. I found out some interesting facts while researching, did you know that many astronauts that have gone into space have been a first born. This was very eye-opening I actually have a better chance than my younger siblings which is unfair on many levels. So each person has careers that are better suited for them like the oldest child fits in with a career in science or government. Which is true for me I would like to become a doctor in the future. Now the second born work well in law enforcement, caretaking, and education. While the youngest do well in design, art, and technology also the only child are fit for nursing or engineering. I also agree with that my little brother, Brennen, works well with all technology. All of these careers are what a majority of people have chosen according to studies researchers have conducted.

Another fact is that usually the first born love school and strive to get higher degrees which leads to higher positions in their careers. The middle child does well on standardized tests while the last born typically have the hardest time in school but are very artistic. Other studies have shown that oldest and only children have more cognitive and analytical skill. Compared to later born children that are more artistic and love the outdoors. Not only does birth order help guide you but also parents tend to encourage first born children to have more prestigious careers but by the time the third child comes along they do not seem to mind as much. I am sharing from experience that as a kid my mom would always have me do puzzles and read books she tried with my sister, Katriana, but she liked to play instead and by the time my brother came along she was happy that he knew his own name. As you can see you are nudged into a career that best suits you.
